Are you frustrated with your voice? Read this.

You know what bugs me most? When singers don't realize their full potential -- not because they're incapable, but because they don't have the right tools.

In our online singing community there are over 90,000 singers who tweet me, email me, leave awesome comments -- you name it! And I can sense the love-hate relationships they have with their voices.

They have spent years (decades, even!) spinning their wheels and not making lasting progress.

Maybe you can relate. You're a singer with boatloads of potential, trying to piece together the "clues" of how singing should feel. But you feel way more frustrated than triumphant.

You see progress, then setbacks. You learn tips and tricks (possibly from me, on YouTube 🙂 ), but nothing truly STICKS.

You don't know how to put it together in the right order.

Your voice comes and goes, never seeming predictable.

You start to worry: "Am I just not cut out for this?"

"Do I have to be blessed with that elusive 'it' factor that makes singing easy and effortless?"

The confusion ends now.

You CAN absolutely sing, consistently and well. There is a voice waiting to be unlocked. If you haven't yet, you haven't been given the right tools.

Singing ISN'T pure natural ability. Singing CAN be developed, and built, in the same way you can build up your muscles in order to lift heavy objects.

Singing is a PROCESS.

A slow burn.

Singing is 50-year marriage, not a weekend love affair.

Singing is about your MIND, BODY, and EMOTIONS, not just physical mechanics.

If you're reading this email, we've already met somewhere on the internet (hi!). You've hopefully enjoyed my singing tips videos, where I give you short bite-sized bits of information. Or maybe you've enrolled in a few of my specialized singing courses, on belting or warming up.

But I want to go deeper with you.

I want to pull everything together in a manner that makes sense.

I want to show you how my "singing tips" are the tip of the iceberg. 🙂

I want to show you how learning singing fundamentals, empowering yourself to know your instrument, and linking your mind, body, and emotions will make your voice soar.

My mission is to help you build a lifelong singer strategy that puts you in the driver's seat, and lets you get to know your voice better than anybody else.

If you can relate to any of this, you are my favorite kind of singer!

You are driven, you are committed, and you are not letting setbacks throw you off course.

Let me help you keep going –

I'd like to extend to you an exclusive invitation to my free singing webinar.

Next Sunday, January 15 @ 3PM EST I'm releasing Part 1 of my epic training series, called:

UNLOCK YOUR TRUE SINGER POTENTIAL: Yes, My Dude, You Can Become a Good Singer

**As the video plays, I'll be there live chatting with you in the comments section of the webinar!**

Be sure to RSVP for the webinar, as space is limited >

This is a 3-part video series that totals over 90 minutes of free singing training! Part 1 comes next Sunday, then parts 2 and 3 throughout the week.

It's unlike anything you've seen from me before (or probably elsewhere), as we will be learning and singing along together, using powerful visual cueing and creativity to access your body and voice. We will get into the nitty gritty of how to build a lifelong singer strategy that WORKS. And I will show you how to build CONFIDENCE & CONSISTENCY every time you go to sing or perform.

RSVP for my epic singing webinar, where you can live chat with me! >

This webinar is a free introduction to my elite training course Singing Transformation: 360 Degrees of Vocal Training, which re-opens for enrollment at the end of this month (after 8 months of being closed, eek!). The entire experience -- from webinar to registration -- is heart-poundingly exciting for me because SO many singers get SUCH incredible results.

I hope to see you there and hope you'll chat with me!

Lots of love,

Fel

P.S. I want to thank all of you who participated in my singer survey and Skype lottery! Update- I'm still going through all 2,359 response (lol) but will announce the Skype winners ASAP!

In the meantime, be sure to RSVP to the webinar so you can secure a spot -- there's tons of interest this year and I like to cap attendance so that I'm not overwhelmed with the live chatting. 🙂

In my webinar, I will teach you:

  • Why it's fruitless to worry about your "maximum potential" - and why you (and you alone) determine your own vocal potential
  • Why practicing on your own doesn't need to be a marathon (and is actually really simple)
  • The REAL reason voice lessons and teachers haven't worked for you in the past
  • The magical power of visual cueing and linking your mind, body, and emotions
  • Why the best singers are their own voice teachers -- and their own cheerleaders
  • How to feel free in performance while still maintaining great technique
  • How to set mental, emotional, and physical conditions so your voice doesn’t “come and go”

Let's do this! xo

My Skype Lottery is Back!

It's the most wonderful time of the year. Nope, I don't mean the holidays....

I mean: it's time for my Singing Survey and Skype Lottery! Woooooo!

Can you lend 3 minutes to answer my quick survey?

Every year I revise my elite 8-week training program Singing Transformation directly from your singer feedback. Singing Transformation is my "teaching opus" -- my mondo fun and cool singing course designed to teach CONFIDENCE and CONSISTENCY in a truly epic and comprehensive way.

The best part: I add to it every year, and use your comments to help shape (1) the way I teach, (2) what I teach. Plus, I'll use your feedback for all of my future courses / videos / teaching topics.

The more I can get to know you, the better I'll be able to help you. 🙂

Extra cool part? If you complete the survey you'll be in the running to get a free Skype session / convo with me -- I'll be picking 3 singers to chat with from all those who enter.*

Fill Out the Singer Survey and Enter My Skype Lottery >

*You can also complete the survey & simply opt-out of the Skype lottery, either way is cool 🙂

Thank you SO MUCH for being such an awesome, helpful, valuable member of my online community. Without you none of this would be possible!

Love and surveys,

Fel

P.S. Even (especially!) if you're already enrolled in Singing Transformation, I'd love to hear your feedback. The survey takes about 3 minutes and asks you about your top singing questions, as well as the kinds of topics you're interested in.

Take the survey and help a Fel out >

Your answers will help me make Singing Transformation even better this year -- and hopefully we'll get a chance to Skype chat (fingers crossed).

Vocal Warmup to Open Your Voice (and Give Yourself Love!)

Singer buds! Many of you have talked to me about the incredible amounts of tension you experience while singing, and I want to help!

I've been cooking up some cool warmups that (1) Relax you, (2) Open your voice, (3) Get you LOVING on yourself and feeling confident. 🙂

(I've been trying to come up with a title for these, I'm thinking "Let's Get Singer-High"?)

Anyway, I wanted to give you a short 'n' sweet preview of one warmup that will get you to:

(1) Open your voice and relax your throat and larynx

(2) Lift your soft palate while relaxing your jaw

(3) Look at yourself in the mirror and think HEY I LOVE MYSELF!

And here it is!

The sung line is "I LIKE LOOKING AT YOU" and the musical pattern is 1-1-3-2-1-1.

Simple, right?

Here's the nitty gritty:

(1) Look in the mirror while you do this. It will help to make sure....

(2) You keep the back of your mouth open and relaxed the whole time, kind of like you're yawning. So you sing "I LIKE LOOKING AT YOU" more like "I LAHK LUHKING AHT YUH."

(2) When you create these words, keep your jaw dropped and try not to move it. Stay open.

(3) Your tongue basically has two "touch points": the back of your bottom teeth, and the back of your top teeth.

(4) Start around a middle C and go for about an octave and change. Stop if it starts to hurt.

(5) As always, breathe using your diaphragm!

(6) Really heed the words you're saying. YOU LIKE LOOKING AT YOURSELF because DAYMN you're sexy.

Hope this warmup is helpful! Leave me a comment to let me know (1) if some more warmups from me to relax you and get you feeling the love for yourself and your voice sounds fun, (2) whether you enjoyed this warmup!

Love,

Fel

P.S. Fellow songwriters! Tonight at 8PM my voice teacher Cari Cole is doing a Facebook live event for songwriters!

VIDEO: How to Relax Your Tongue While Singing

My newest singing tips video gives you 3 suggestions (+ 1 bonus tip) for how to relax your tongue and get it to stay neutral while you're singing!

Two ways to gauge tongue tension are:

(1) how your voice sounds (do you sound like Kermit the Frog?)

(2) How your throat or neck feels (dull pains along your jaw or at the top of your voice box).

If you have tongue tension or a tense tongue, fear not! 3 easy triggers to get your tongue to chill include:

(1) Thinking "UH" while you sing

(2) Pretending you're drunk (not kidding)

(3) Practicing a "conversational" version of your song or warmup

And as a bonus tip? Don't make an enemy out of your tongue! As a singer, it does more harm than good to be stressed out about the body part that's causing you tension. Instead, think positively about your tongue, remember that it's just trying to help, and eventually it will learn to back off and stay out of the equation.

Enjoy! 🙂

How to Sing - 3 Top Questions About Singing, Answered

In case you haven't heard, my new mega singing course SINGING TRANSFORMATION: 360 DEGREES OF VOCAL TRAINING is open for enrollment this week!!

I want to quickly answer 3 of your top singing questions that keep popping up during this week of Singing Transformation enrollment --

1. How do I know if I'm singing with my OWN voice?

You already know the answer to this one: if you love singing and have some practice under your belt, you already have a voice! Done! Congrats! You have a voice!!

But here's the KEY -- to stop fighting against your sound. The best singing is the EASIEST singing. No joke. We don't need tricks or compensations. We just need to get out of the way and make way for our sound to resonate.

And we do that through: (1) supported breath, (2) a relaxed body, (3) mental visualizations that help you ready, aim, fire your sound so it hits EVERY TIME. No mystery, no surprises. It all just comes from practice, and a plan.

2. No matter how much I practice, my weaknesses never get better! Will I ever improve?

Heck yes! If you've studied with voice teachers in the past and haven't made progress, you're in the majority. In fact, voice teachers sometimes serve to REINFORCE bad habits because you meet with them every week, sing with bad habits, and they never correct you. Then you go home and practice without goals or strategies in mind, and nothing ever seems to change.

It's super common. But singing is just like any other skill - you need the right instruction and the right guidance. If you have mental or physical blocks that make it hard to sing correctly, it's time to change the conversation.

As a teacher, I'm all about the MIND-BODY connection. Saying that one thing that will get your body to react. And then pairing that visualization or prompt with your practice, every single time.

Habits are annoying, sure. But they can totally be broken. You just need a new approach. Soon, your mind and body will relearn what feels NORMAL -- and what feels normal will be awesome, relaxed, singing. 🙂

3. What happens when I go to learn a song and it's too hard?

Here's a freeing fact: if you can sing it in warmups, you can sing it in a performance.

So often, the act of adding lyrics, melody, and a character/context to a song freaks us out so we think we have to abandon technique. Suddenly the "big note" at the end seems super intimidating, even though we've sung the note 100 times during practice!

I discuss the Song Performance process in great detail in Singing Transformation, but a HUGE key to making songs accessible is to break them down into small, manageable chunks, and then sing one or two lines as a vocal warmup.

Similarly, if you find there's a really helpful vocal warmup or even vowel sound that gets your voice pinging out beautifully, you can APPLY those vowels and warmups to the song at hand.

Again, this is a multi-step process that I get into in more detail, but it's actually much easier to relate songs to warmups than you think.

A lot of us expect to hear a song, check out the sheet music, and BAM! sing it perfectly. But it doesn't work like that. Take it from me -- sometimes, the first time I sing through a song, I sound like a weirdo.

But once you find your groove, break it down, modify vowels, and understand that lyrics are not all that different from your vocal warmups, you'll be golden.

ALSO!
One more thing - registration for Singing Transformation is OPEN as of yesterday. The deep discounts and bonuses are good only through this week, and certain options will sell out, so please don't wait that long if you're interested in bundling in personalized instruction with me!!

okay thanks for reading and sending your questions!!

xo Fel

P.S. I know I zipped through these 3 questions, but Singing Transformation: 360 Degrees of Vocal Training gets into all these topics, in great detail. I also address:

-How to practice

-How to know if your voice "feels" right

-Mixing your chest and head voice

-Adding power to your sound

-Breath support

-Relaxation

-Delivering an awesome performance at a concert or audition

-Self-confidence

Live written Q&A also allows you to ask me any question, any time, and certain tiers of enrollment include Google hangouts and personalized video critiques. And it's all only through Monday my friends--
